Keeping Christ in Christmas

Do you ever grow discouraged by how little your family focuses on Christ at Christmas?

I know I do.

My husband works for a church. We go to church every single Sunday. So you would think it would be easy for us to keep Christ in Christmas.

You would think…but it’s not.

My boys, of course, know the reason we celebrate. If you asked them why this holiday exists, they would (hopefully) tell you it’s all because of Jesus.

But if I’m really being honest, in the day to day…Jesus sometimes gets lost.

He gets lost in the Christmas parties, in the piles of presents, and in the activities that fill our weekends.

Jesus-who is supposed to be the central figure of the holiday-doesn’t always make it to the celebration.

When I first sat down to write this post, I intended to offer tips. Suggestions on how to keep Him central. But honestly…I struggle with this too.

So instead of offering tips, I’m offering a challenge (that I plan to take part in as well!).

My challenge is this. For the next 23 days, be intentional about keeping your focus on Jesus.

  • Read your Bible every day until Christmas (If you’re not already reading something, start in one of the Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John).
  • Start your days with prayer.
  • Do some of the activities I shared in last week’s post (especially those that focus on Jesus)-25 Days Until Christmas: Activities to Do With Your Kids.
  • Slow down.
  • Say no to the good, so you can say yes to the best.
What other things help you keep your focus on Jesus?
